Sunday Schedule

Commencing Sunday, July 5 By Donation

10:00–10:30 a.m. — Open Social
Arrive, settle into the space, meet fellow community members, and enjoy informal conversation before the first meditation period.

10:30–11:30 a.m. — First Sit
A shared period of meditation and quiet practice. Participants are welcome to engage in the contemplative practice that is most meaningful and appropriate for them while respecting the stillness of the group.

11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. — Tea and Discussion
A relaxed hour for tea, connection, and conversation about meditation, contemplative life, and the experience of practicing in community. A facilitator will guide conversation and keep it on topic. Socializing should be kept to the open and close of the day.

12:30–1:30 p.m. — Second Sit
A second shared period of meditation, offering an opportunity to return to silence and deepen into personal practice.

1:30–2:00 p.m. — Open Social
Close out the day with socializing and connecting with your fellow practitioners.

Beginning July 5, Sundays will be open meditation days at the SHIRe. Please Carpool - Limited parking

Living Wisdom Project invites the San Juan Islands community to gather in the peaceful, forested setting of the SHIRe for meditation, stillness, conversation, and shared presence.

We recognize a growing need for a local meditation community—a place where people can sustain their individual practices while experiencing the support of practicing alongside others. These Sunday gatherings are intended to provide a welcoming and consistent space for contemplative practice, meaningful connection, and quiet renewal.

The SHIRe was formerly Sakya Kachod Choling, the retreat center of the Sakya Society, and is known locally as the Gompa on Bullfrog Road. For more than three decades, this land was cared for as a place of Buddhist study, meditation, and retreat. Living Wisdom Project is not seeking to recreate or replace the former Buddhist center. We hope instead to respectfully carry forward the land’s legacy of contemplative practice by once again welcoming the community into this sanctuary.

All meditation traditions and personal practices are welcome. Whether you have practiced for many years, are just beginning, or simply feel drawn to experience quiet time in community, there will be a place for you here. No particular spiritual belief, lineage, technique, or level of experience is expected.

Participants may attend the full gathering or join us for the portion of the day that best supports their practice.
